'A cry for help pierced the din of battle. As soon as Dakota heard the sound, he knew something unspeakably awful had just happened. He turned as the sound of metal-on-metal slowly faded into the background. It took maybe two seconds for him to process what he was seeing. Then he pushed his way through the ranks of legionnaires.

A girl was sprawled across the ground, a pilum through her stomach. Her hair had fallen across her face, but Dakota didn't need to see her features to know it was Gwen. His Gwen. The girl that had kept all their spirits up during the seemingly hopeless battle of Mount Orthrys. The girl that was always optimistic, no matter what the circumstances. The girl that was always ready with a smile and a laugh to cheer anyone up on their toughest days. The one girl Dakota knew that didn't mind working with him - that even enjoyed working with him. The most perfect girl in living memory, in Dakota's personal opinion (when he was sober enough to have personal opinions, that is). That girl was lying half-dead on the floor.'

I wasn’t exactly sure what I would be getting when I started reading this book but I found that it helped me remember certain things that happened in the main books. It had some of that classic Riordan wit plus new information on some of the main characters! The content was a mix of entries, mainly letters from different characters or quizzes on a few god/goddess. I really enjoyed those little notes Setne made throughout the book! They were interesting and mad

This was one of the more unsubstantial of the companion books.
The entries written by characters were cool enough, but the quizzes were a little contrite.

As with the other companion guides, this was pretty fun but lacks any of the real substance that would allow me to give it a higher rating. I liked the stories but honestly the quiz format sections are annoying to me both because I'm reading an ebook so I can't actually like 'take' the quiz and also because it kept asking us questions about the gods before it even gave us any info about them in the text so I'm like 'well how am I supposed to know that?'. I feel like it would probably be more fun...more
These companion guides are always really fun, even though they do lack substance.

I just love these books! They are each perfect for the middle school age group that they are written for being filled with age appropriate humor and attitude that all kids will love. This is a companion novel to the Kane chronicles so it has lots of little stories that give great insight into all of the main characters from the books. I loved every minute of so I give it 5/5 stars.

'To all young magicians
May your wands never break

I'm gonna tattoo this line in my entire face okay?
It has been so long since I was in the Kane Chronicles world that I was a little worried going into this companion book. As you all know, I'm obsessed with mythology and wanted to see Riordan's take on this expanded of the mythos so I couldn't pass it up. I was not disappointed, nor was I incredibly confused by the secondary characters that I did not particularly remember. I think this is readable even if you don't remember all of the details from the series, although it will be a little spoiler...more

Of all the series companions by Riordan, I liked this one the least. In its favor, it was divided up into many sections, all mostly detailed. There was information on the Kanes, the Duat, Brooklyn House, a Glossary, Guide to the Characters and even a Hieroglyph Key.
The section on the Gods and Goddesses though did not impart any information. All it was was a quiz about each god or goddess then what I am going to call an 'Intermission Story' relating to the previous god or goddess. So, for exampl

I really think this book is a blessing because I miss the Kanes so much. Reading it made me remember why I love the Kane Chronicles. This book is funny, witty, and quite informative. I really like the Setne subplot because it made me want to read more. It definitely made this book more exciting.
I love Uncle Rick's companion books 😍

This was fun! I’m glad I got to see a little bit of what Carter and Sadie are up to.
This book was humorous. I opened it and didn't look up until I finished!!!

As much as I loved the book, I did not appreciate the quizzes. Not because I don't like quizzes, but because I don't like flipping my book upside down repeatedly to compare question and answer.
This one had more 'interactive' bits than the others like it. I prefer less of that. While I like the continuation of story - I wish there had been more of that. I miss these characters.

*Sigh*
I love Rick Riordan, but this was a rare miss for me. Even giving it 3 stars is being generous.
The content is this book was just So Weak. Most of the sections about gods and goddesses were set up as quizzes, and the answers were at the end of the chapter, upside down. I actually got dizzy reading this book with all the flipping. And the questions/answers weren’t even always serious; often they were ridiculous nonsense, or something fake set up by Sadie to be cute/funny. It just fell flat f

This was amazing. From Setne's sub-plot to Sadie's comments trough-out the book. I loved every page of it.
This short novella highlights and guides its reader through the Brooklyn House and invites them to explore more on the characters from the Kane Chronicles. This gave readers the chance to really read up on characters who may not have always played a prominent role in the series; really showcasing the secondary characters and giving them a voice. There are a lot of short stories in their points of view, which was a lot of fun to read. The fact that Riordan chose to give his readers information in...more
As much as I love Uncle Rick's mythoverse (or whatever we're calling this), I have shamefully not read every book. This is one I've neglected, so I picked it up. Honestly, the Kane Chronicles is probably my least favorite in the mythoverse. In retrospect, I feel like Rick probably wrote on Egyptian mythology too early. If he let the Greco-Roman series build up a bit more, I think Kane Chronicles would've been a lot stronger.
But all that aside, it was still nice coming back to the Kanes and their

I didn’t LOVE this book, but I think I was just focused on finishing it the whole time I read it, and not focused on how it was a pretty good book.
As always, Uncle Rick did an amazing job at bringing out these other characters that we were able to explore a bit.
Also, even though this was just a handbook sort of book, so there was just information about the world and Brooklyn House and little entries by characters, there was a bit of a plot as well! It was small, and I thought it a bit cheesy,

I really enjoyed the extra information in the book. I never fell in love with The Kane Chronicles the way I fell in love with Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but I still find the books and it's related books (like this one) enjoyable. I would highly recommend this to anyone who was a bigger fan of The Kane Chronicles than I was.

It's a nice quick read, though there were lots of spoilers for me since I haven't been able to get my hands on the last book of the series yet (though that is partially my fault for reading this before reading the last book, it is not my fault though that Amazon delivered this book before the 'The Serpent's Shadow'). I also feel the need to point out that I did call some of the spoilers lol. Plus and most importantly in my opinion: Cleo from Rio!!! Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!!! A Brazilian character...more

Oh well, it appears all the Egyptian monsters are coming for me now and since the book portal isn’t working, I’ll probably be dead soon. BUT the good news is that, while I wait for my inevitable and undoubtedly very painful death, I can beat all my friends in a quiz with my trivia knowledge about the Egyptian mythology. Fun to read and learn more about this subject, guided by different characters from the kane chronicles. Also, the small reference to the greek mythology didn’t escape my attentio...more

I think, so far, this is my favorite companion book. I loved the little stories from the different characters and enjoyed Sadie's sarcastic comments now and then and the 'thing' with Setne lol
The quizzes were okay. The other companion book already gives normal information on the different Gods so I'm glad that this one didn't bother to do it and instead gave little quizzes that, if you read the books then you should know the answers to even if some of them were kinda silly. It was interesting to

Brooklyn House Magician's Manual by Rick Riordan is a companion to the Kane Chronicles series. The book serves as a guide to initiates arriving at Brooklyn House to learn about magic, Egyptian gods, and mythology. The book is full of quizzes and stories from Carter, Sadie, and tons of other characters from the series.
I thought this book was super fun. I didn't realize how much I missed the characters until I picked this up today.

I read the Kane chronicles last year and loved the series so so much ! This book reminded me how sarcastic and witty Sadie and carter can be and all the other great characters! It was so funny yet informational and it was as if I never left the story at all. This made me want to reread the Kane chronicles over again which will happen sometime in the future. IM SO GLAD RICK RIORDAN IS BACK IN MY READING LIFE I HAVE MISSED HIS WRITING SO MUCH.

listen. it was fun? a skimmed a lot of parts that just seemed unnecessary? i mean it was a fun read and i don’t detest it. i was just bored and didn’t find myself interested? but honestly the only reason i didn’t give it a one star is because there was mention of people from Long Island at the end so. one star for my camp half blood kiddos.
This book helped me understand more about the past series I read, the Kane Chronicles. The beginning was more of a novel, but it transitioned into a nonfiction book about halfway. I would recommend this book to people who like nonfiction books, want to learn more about the Kane Chronicles series, or want to learn more about Egyptian gods.

This will be a short review because this is a companion book.
This book is about the way a initiate is trained when he arrives at the 21st nome. This book is a very exciting one for Rick Riordan die-hard fans.
I loved the comments from Sadie and Setne, they made LOL.
Overall a very good companion.
